VICTORIA (May 18, 2022) – If John Horgan’s museum vanity project is such a good idea, why have virtually no NDP MLAs voiced their support for it? That’s what the BC Liberals are asking, five days after the government announced the pricey megaproject.
A review of NDP MLAs’ Twitter activity since last Friday reveals only four of their 57 members have had anything good to say about it — and it’s getting noticed.
“The Official Opposition knows this is a mammoth-sized mistake by the NDP, and the public knows it as well,” says Opposition House Leader Todd Stone. “Why aren’t NDP members coming to the defence of this project? If it’s so badly needed, they need to explain the rationale to their constituents. British Columbians deserve answers as to why a vanity museum project is being prioritized over relief from simultaneous affordability, public health and public safety crises.”
Stone says the $1 billion price tag, which is far from a modest upgrade to the facility, totally misses the mark. A BC Liberal government would scrap the project.
