PRINCE GEORGE (September 6, 2021) – Interim Leader of the Official Opposition Shirley Bond issued the following statement today for Rosh Hashanah:
“As the sun sets this evening, Jewish families here in B.C. and around the world, will gather to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the start of the Jewish New Year and the beginning of the High Holidays.
“The High Holidays are an important time for reflection, repentance, and renewal to be spent with friends and loved ones. All across the province, British Columbia’s Jewish community will come together to carry on traditions that have survived countless wars, oppression, and pandemics thanks to the resilience of the Jewish people throughout history.
“My thoughts are with those in the Jewish community who have faced intolerance and discrimination this past year as hate crimes and antisemitic incidents have tragically increased in our province. We continue to stand together with all those experiencing hatred and bigotry. There is no place for these actions in British Columbia.
“On behalf of the entire BC Liberal Caucus, I want to extend our warmest wishes to those celebrating Rosh Hashanah and our sincerest hopes that the year 5782 brings good health and happiness to all.
“Shanah Tovah Umetukah!”
